Work crews started spraying invasive grasses in Sabino Canyon during the summer of 2010. The group of seven Forest Service workers, carrying backpack sprayers, applied the herbicide at the top of the canyon road (Tram Stop 9). They sprayed the invasive grasses along the side of the road and in the washes down to Tram Stop 1. The herbicide has also been regularly applied to the Giant Reed Grass that has sprouted up since volunteers dug out this very invasive plant since 2008.
